SiC UV avalanche photodiodes (APDs) operating in single photon counting mode (Geiger mode) have high multiplication gain of over 106 and fast response time in ns level. They are well suitable for detecting ultra-weak UV signals, which have key applications in the fields of corona detection, biological fluorescence, UV communication as well as many emerging hi-tech areas.
